TENOROC | Buoyed by the return of starting quarterback Demeitre Brim, the Victory Christian Storm excelled in all three areas to defeat previously undefeated Mount Dora Bible 41-0 in the Class 2A, District 4 opener in front of 150 fans at Tenoroc High School Friday night.
The 2-2 Storm (1-0) scored the only touchdown they would need late in the first quarter as running back Ricky Pierre scored the first of his three touchdowns, this one from eight yards out. He also scored from 45 and 23 yards while accumulating 111 yards on nine rushes in three quarters of play.
Brim, who missed the first three games due to a jaw injury, came in and directed a offense behind a line, that according to Storm coach Jeff Schaum, was the best they have blocked in the three years that he has been there. The end result was 380 yards rushing, with Brim rushing for 159 yards and two scores.
"The team builds off of each other," Brim said. "The timing was off a little bit due to the lack of playing time. I just want to get back into the rhythm and the flow of the offense."
Coming into the game, the 4-1 Bulldogs were rushing for 310 yards a contest while averaging 48 points, But the Victory Christian defense held the visitors to just 63 yards of offense and they also forced three turnovers and blocked two punts on special teams.
"The kids did a good job of watching film this week," Schaum added. "It was good getting our vocal leader (Brim) back."
The Storm go on the road next Saturday to play Agape Christian.
