District Volleyball Roundup: Victory Christian, All Saints to Meet

LAKELAND | Victory Christian set a season high in aces with 19 en route to a 3-0 victory over Heartland Christian in the Class 2A, District 7 volleyball tournament.

Hannah Seitz accounted for 10 of those to go along with 26 service points and 20 assists.

Destinee Pierce had six aces and Michelle King compiled 14 kills.

The win puts the Storm in the finals Thursday against All Saints.

Victory Christian is 2-0 against the Saints this season.

"It will be a good match," Victory Christian head coach Robin Sechrest said. "We're fairly even ... It could go either way."

Both Victory Christian and All Saints secured berths into the regional playoffs. The winner of Thursday's game will play host to a regional tournament game next week. The loser will go on the road.

 

All Saints Academy 3, Sonrise Christian 0

Christine Brooker had 31 assists to help All Saints march past Sonrise.

The Saints struggled early, but won the first set 25-18.

"We started off a little shaky in the first set," All Saints coach Bruce Guth said. "A few girls hadn't touched a ball in a few days. ... It took us a while to get in sync."

With momentum on the Saints' side, they won the second set 25-13 and the third 25-11.

The win is the Saints' first in over a week and places them at 12-12 this season.

Taylor Ashcraft had 10 kills and Mabry Craddock added 12 for All Saints.

 

Class 6A-District9

Sebring 3, Lake Gibson 0

SEBRING | The Lake Gibson Braves' volleyball season may be over following a 3-0 loss to Sebring, but the outlook is positive.

The team will feature seven seniors next season and they doubled their wins from last year.

"I think we're learning. It's a big change of program's for both of them," Lake Gibson coach Sheri Cooper said. "The camaraderie is very positive and I'm getting through to the older girls. We're on a path to building a winning program."

Kari Hopkins had five kills and three aces for the Braves. Kelsey Friend had three kills and five aces while Brittney Ghurst assisted in 16 kills and aced four serves.
