State Swimming: Jenkins' Carson Finishes 15 at 3A Meet

George Jenkins' swimmer Alex Carson finished 15th in the 100-yard backstroke at the Class 3A state meet on Thursday, and teammate Zak Kerst placed 22nd in 1-meter diving competition.

 

The two were the only Polk County athletes to compete in the 3A meet. Carson, a freshman, swam a personal-best 54.22 in the preliminary races in the morning, then came back in the evening with a 54.89.

 

Kerst finished with 317.40 points.

 

"They both did a fabulous job," George Jenkins' coach Jenn Gosline said. "We really don't want the season to end."
