Santa Fe Catholic star BJ Knauf was picked as a first-team member of The Associated Press' 2011 All-State Class 2A football team.

Selections for 1A and 2A, including first and second team and honorable mention, were announced Thursday morning.

Knauf, PolkPrep.com's Small School Co-Offensive Player of The Year, played quarterback and safety for the Crimson Hawks this season. As a defensive back, he led his team with 90 tackles. He was picked to the All-State team as a defensive back.

Under center, he rushed for 1,769 yards, threw for 861 yards and scored 33 total touchdowns.

The news came as a surprise to Knauf, a Purdue commit.

"Honestly, I didn't really expect it," he said. "I thought I would probably make it somewhere as an athlete, but I never know where I'm going to be put because there's so much talent in the state of Florida."

Victory Christian teammates Demeitre Brim and Ricky Pierre also made the list. Brim, who shared player of the year honors with Knauf, was picked for the second team offense. Like Knauf, Brim played at quarterback and in the secondary for the Storm. Pierre, a running back, was on the Class 2A honorable mention list.

"It's good to know I made the list," said Brim, a Virginia commit. "With me missing three games, I guess it hindered me. But It's an honor being picked for a team regardless."

Brim, who missed the first three games of the season because of a broken jaw, had 1,241 yards rushing, 607 passing and 20 total touchdowns and helped Victory to a Class 2A state semifinals appearance.
