Lake Gibson Star Terrell Will Play for W. Kentucky

By SOLANGE REYNER | THE LEDGER

Lake Gibson defensive lineman Devante Terrell will join four other Polk County football players at Division I Western Kentucky. The 6-foot-1, 288-pound tackle told The Ledger Sunday that he has verbally committed to play football for the Hilltoppers.

Terrell, who finished with 63 tackles, 14 for loss, and six sacks this season, made an official visit to Western Kentucky this past weekend. He made his decision before he flew back home on Sunday.

"I felt comfortable there. I felt like I could really be there for four years and have a good time," said Terrell, who joins Auburndale's Ricardo Singh, Haines City's Kadeem Jones and Tyree Robinson and Kathleen's Andrew Jackson on the roster.

Jackson, who played with Terrell in little league football, showed him around campus on Saturday.

The Hilltoppers, who play in the Sun Belt Conference, went 7-5 in 2011 after a horrible 2010 season in which the team finished 2-10.

The team is in the same conference as Florida Atlantic and Florida International. Terrell had 12 offers to play college football.
Iowa State, Louisville, Memphis, Arizona State and the University of Central Florida were all interested in signing him.
