FROSTPROOF | Both district winner Frostproof and runner up Mulberry lost Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals.
A slow start coupled with a skilled St. Petersburg Catholic team equaled a 3-0 loss for the Bulldogs while Mulberry was crushed by Clearwater Central Catholic 8-0 on the road.
The Bulldogs came out flat Tuesday at Faris Brannen Stadium.
They trailed 2-0 with 25:28 remaining in the first half before they started playing aggressively.
Even a change to a more offensive formation in the second half didn't offer much help as the Bulldogs finished the season with a 14-4-1 record.
"We were on our heels," said Frostproof coach George Wrye of the first half. "They were attacking us well."
Wrye admitted he was going with a more defensive lineup in the first half with seniors Ana Vega and Cristal Rojas playing in the back to see what the Barons would do.
Even though the Bulldogs played much better in the second half with Vega and Rojas at forward, it wasn't enough to recover from the deficit.
"We got into a hole and we couldn't get out," Wrye said. "When we get behind we don't score a lot of goals. They had too many skilled position players."
