Preps Notebook: Four Polk Soccer Players Selected for FACA West All-Star Team

LAKELAND | Lakeland High School is hosting the fourth annual Adidas Polk County High School All-Star basketball game tonight at 7:30 p.m. There will be a 3-point shooting contest and dunk contest with the game sandwiched in between.

Ridge Community's Terry Rose, Winter Haven's Devon Walker and Haines City's Briona Brown and LaDerricka Spillman were selected to participate in the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star game Saturday at Vanguard High School in Ocala. The girls' game starts at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. LaDreda Akins, who led Haines City to the Class 7A state title game, will coach one of the girls teams. Admission for the game is $5.
MULBERRY'S LESLIE YOUNG TO PLAY AT JUCO
Mulberry running back Leslie Young will play football at The New Mexico Military Institute, a junior college, he told The Ledger Tuesday.
Young, who also played on defense for the Panthers last season, rushed for 586 yards in 2011. He was also getting looked at by Western Kentucky but the school ran out of scholarships, he said.
