Tenoroc's Travis Tucker Wins District Titles in Three Events

1 - Tenoroc senior Travis Tucker won the long jump and 100 and 200 meter races April 12 to claim three district titles at the Class 2A-8 meet at Frostproof. In winning the sprint events, Tucker, who is competing in track and field for the first time in high school, lodged the fastest times in the county. He ran 10.74 seconds in the 100 and 21.84 in the 200.
2 - Lakeland senior pole vaulter Josh McDaniel jumped 15 feet, 6 inches at the Brian Jaeger Invitational in Winter Park on Saturday. The vault was the top performance in all classifications in the state this year.
3 - Lake Wales' Taylor Cockrell threw a no-hitter against Tenoroc on Friday night to clinch the top seed in Class 5A, District 10. Cockrell, who has a .894 ERA, struck out 13 in the outing.
4 - Tenoroc senior third baseman Kortney Guy went 8-for-11 with six runs scored, two doubles, 11 RBIs and three home runs last week for the Titans.
5 - Santa Fe Catholic senior Matthew Stambrosky won the discus event at last week's Class 1A, District 9 championships, setting a new school record of 141-09.
6 - Lakeland doubles partners Sarah Coleman and Alexis Kelson beat George Jenkins' Amy Whitehurst and Sandra Khalife, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (4) on April 12, to help the Dreadnuaghts win the second-round regional match and get into the state tournament.
7 - Lakeland Christian sophomore Logan Browning pitched six innings with 10 strikeouts and yielded one earned run against McKeel on April 10. He also hit a triple.
8 - Fort Meade senior Kamesha Brown won the long jump (17-00.50), the 100 (0:13.44) and also anchored the Miners' winning 4x100 team with 0:55.98 on April 11 at the Class 1A, District 9 track meet.
9 - Santa Fe Catholic junior Evan Barnes pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts in a 4-3 district win over Fort Meade on April 6. He also went 1-for-2 with a key RBI.
10 - Lakeland Christian freshman TJ Simmons (won the 100 (0:11.24), 200 (0:23.03) while also anchoring his 4x100 team (0:45.36) to victory at the Class 1A, District 9 track meet.
