WINTER HAVEN | Four years ago Ashley Dills spotted her name on a varsity volleyball roster and on Thursday she dotted it across scholarship papers to play for Brevard Community College.
“When I made the varsity team as a freshman I was like ‘Wow, I’m better than I thought. So I’d better use my height to pay for college,’” she said. “I love to play and this is what I want to do.”
Dills, who is a 2011 Polk Preps First Team All-County selection, led Winter Haven High School to the Class 6A, District 9 championship and a regional quarterfinals win over New Port Richey Mitchell this past season.
The four-year starter amassed 333 kills in her career while playing every position on the floor. She is expected to play middle blocker at Brevard.
“It’s probably my strongest position,” Dills said.
