Tremendous Ten: Three Polk Weightlifters Win FHSAA State Titles

1 - Bartow's Leo Henderson and Auburndale's Lopton Pierre and Darrien Booker won state weightlifting titles during the weekend at the FHSAA tournament. Henderson, who competes at 119 pounds, totaled 460 pounds in winning his third straight title. Pierre, a 169-pounder, hoisted 620 pounds, and Booker, a heavyweight, put up 720 pounds.
2 - All Saints' Academy sophomores Tyler Pate and Nelson Hughes made it to the state finals in the individual bracket of the Class 1A tennis tournament in No. 1 doubles. They knocked off a second seed en route to the finals, but fell short, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, against the No. 1 seed April 19.
3 - Bartow junior pitcher Lauren West went 2-0 with 19 strikeouts to help the Yellow Jackets win the Class 7A, District 7 district tournament. West only gave up one earned run in her outings. She was on the mound in a 5-2 win over Haines City and against George Jenkins in the district final, a game Bartow won 4-0 on Saturday.
4 - Kathleen junior Di'Kierra Wilson won district titles in the 100- and 200-meter races and also helped anchor the winning 4x100 relay team at the Class 3A, District 7 track meet April 19.
5 - Auburndale sophomore Chandler Middlebrook went 4-for-6 with two doubles, one home run and four RBIs last week to help the Bloodhounds claim the Class 5A, District 10 softball title.
6 - Tenoroc junior Emerald Bell won her third straight Class 2A regional title in the shotput April 19, throwing 38 feet, six inches for the victory.
7 - Lake Wales junior Sabria Hadley won the 100-meter race at regionals and came in second place in the 200. She also helped her 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish.
8 - Lakeland Christian freshman T.J. Simmons won the 200-meter race and came in second in the 100 at the Class 1A, Region 3 meet April 19. He also qualified for states in the long jump.
9 - Lakeland senior Danny Mack made it to the Class 3A state tennis finals in the individual bracket of No. 1 singles, winning two touch matches to advance past the second round and the semis.
10 - All Saints pitcher Lissette Garay gave up one hit in the Saints' district title game against Victory Christian. She also had a double. Garay also drove in two runs in the semis.
