Tremendous Ten: McDaniel Wins Pole Vault Title With Best Jump in the State

1 -  Lakeland senior Josh McDaniel won a Class 3A state title in the pole vault on Friday. He jumped 15 feet 6 inches to win it, beating out competitors by 6 inches. McDaniel was a runner up in the event last year. His 15-6 mark was the best in all classifications in Florida this year.

2 -  Auburndale junior Destinee Glover hit a grand slam in the Bloodhounds' Class 5A regional semifinal win over Titusville on April 30. The home run gave Auburndale a lead it would not relinquish.

3 -  George Jenkins senior Tori Abnathy placed sixth in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles at the Class 3A state meet Friday. She ran 14.80 seconds in the 100 and 45.19 in the 300.

4 -  Winter Haven senior Tyler Pike struck out 11 in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal win over Land O' Lakes on May 4. The Blue Devils went on to win their regional semifinal Tuesday.

5 -  Lakeland Christian sophomore Logan Browning struck out 12 in a Class 3A regional baseball quarterfinal win over Bishop McLaughlin on May 3. The Vikings lost in the regional semis on Tuesday despite a two-run homer by Browning.

6 -  Bartow junior pitcher Lauren West struck out 10 in a Class 7A regional softball final win over Kissimmee Osceola on Friday. She only gave up three hits in the win, which earned the Yellow Jackets a return trip to the state tournament.

7 -  Lake Wales' Taylor Cockrell threw nine innings in the team's Class 5A regional baseball quarterfinal win over Merritt Island on May 2. He only gave up three hits, striking out eight in the 1-0 victory.

8 -  Bartow senior Montel Collins placed fifth at the Class 3A state track and field meet in the discus on Saturday. He threw a personal-best 162-01.

9 -  Lake Gibson junior Rachel Fredrick posted a 5-4 mark in the high jump at the Class 3A state meet on Saturday, a personal-best jump that earned her a top-five finish.

10 -  Auburndale freshman Brooke Hutto pitched the Bloodhounds to two regional softball wins last week to help the team advance to the Class 5A state tournament. She also started on Tuesday in the state semifinals, a game Auburndale lost 11-6.
