DAVENPORT | Terry Rose on Monday became the first Ridge Community graduate to sign a national letter of intent to play basketball for a Division I program.

He received a full athletic scholarship from Grambling State University, a school in Louisiana whose athletic programs compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Rose, a slinky 6-foot-4 guard, was a sharp shooter for Ridge who helped the team get deep into the playoffs last season. Ridge made it to the Class 7A regional finals, the furthest the team had gone into the post season in school history. Rose also led Polk County in scoring, averaging 25.1 points per game, and was a first team All-State and All-County selection.

Grambling State recently hired a new coach, Joseph Price, to take over the basketball program. Rose has not met with him yet and was instead recruited by an assistant coach who liked what he saw from Rose on film.

"The assistant said he loved me and told the head coach that they had to have me," Rose said. "I'm super excited they're taking a chance with me. I can't wait to get to work."
