Santa Fe Catholic got a boost from an unexpected participant on offense, and its defense had a solid outing Thursday night as it beat Central Florida Christian and International Community School in a jamboree-style format preseason game in Orlando.
Michael Cottner, a junior running back, showed up to Santa Fe last Friday. He transferred in from a school in Texas and had only one day of practice in pads with the team. He scored the lone touchdown for Santa Fe against CFC and finished with 76 yards.
Santa Fe played two quarters against CFC and two against International Community School, which they beat 2-0. Senior lineman Alex Dry, who finished with three tackles, had the safety in that game. Santa Fe beat CFC 7-0.
Santa Fe quarterback Nick Martinez was 7 of 12 for 78 yards passing with one interception and two touchdown passes called back. Gabe Torre caught two passes for 42 yards. Cottner also caught four passes for 21 yards.
