FROSTPROOF | The Haines City Hornets were not perfect, but were better prepared than the Frostproof Bulldogs in a 34-15 victory Friday night in front of 350 fans at Farris Brannen Stadium.
The Hornets posted fewer mistakes while the Bulldogs seemed to make a miscue at every opportunity.
The Hornets put the young Bulldogs in a deficit early as junior running back Dacorius Law ran for touchdowns of 60 and 28 yards among his first three carries to give his team a 15-0 lead with 9:10 left in the first quarter.
He scored again on a 6-yard run in the quarter and finished with 118 yards on 11 carries.
The Bulldogs tallied 85 yards in penalties and seemed to hurt themselves constantly at inopportune moments.
Frostproof's best offensive player was freshman quarterback Xavier Gaines.
He rushed for 68 yards on nine carries while completing six of 13 passes for 44 yards without an interception.
"We had a good offensive team," Haines City coach Pete Barber said."We held Frostproof pretty much in check. People were doing good things on defense.."
