FORT MEADE | The young Fort Meade Miners started off the season well with a 24-14 victory over rival Hardee on Friday at Battle Field.

The Miners (1-0) put together a well-balanced offense and were stingy on defense, holding Hardee (0-1) to 107 total yards.

The offense was so balanced, Miner quarterback Jay Smith threw for 153 yards to seven receivers and three touchdowns.

D.J. Clark rushed for 85 yards on 10 carries in the first half before staying on the sidelines with a minor injury. Senior receiver Chris Morris caught two touchdown passes of 12 and 31 yards.

Fort Meade travels to Lake Region next week.
