Gaines Leads Frostproof Past Avon Park

AVON PARK | Freshman quarterback Xavier Gaines ran for two touchdowns and passed for another in Frostproof’s 27-0 season-opening victory over Avon Park on Friday.

The Bulldogs held Avon Park to minus-7 yards of offense in the first half and turned a couple of turnovers into a 21-point second quarter. Trevis Harrinton’s interception set up Gaines’ 32-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Allen with 19.2 seconds left in the half.

Gaines completed 7-of-16 passes for 134 yards in his high school debut and the Bulldogs outgained the Red Devils, 263 yards to 45.

Frostproof plays at Sebring next week.
