DAVENPORT | Ridge Community's defense forced Tenoroc into seven turnovers to create scoring opportunities, and rolled past the Titans, 48-0, in their high school football season opener Friday night.
Four Ridge players combined for five interceptions, and the Bolts recovered two Tenoroc fumbles.
Shykeem Pitts started the scoring with a 24-yard interception return and added an 89-yard punt return in the second half.
Mike Hall had two of Ridge's five interceptions. The Bolts (1-0) intercepted Tenoroc quarterback Vic Smith's first two passes of the night.
Four of the turnovers led directly to Ridge touchdowns.
"We had some key turnovers early. Our kids broke on some balls, then we had some that went our way off some mishandled balls," Ridge coach Richard Tate said.
The turnovers helped put Tenoroc (0-1) in an early 14-0 hole, and a third one allowed the Bolts to add two touchdowns in the final 1:31 of the first half.
"It got out of hand fast for us," Tenoroc coach Dave Robson said. "They've got some athletic kids in the back there that can make a difference."
Offensively, Ridge had seven players run the ball, and five accounted for Ridge's six rushing touchdowns. Trayvon Howard ran for 43 yards and one TD, and Inglesson Sanon ran for 20 yards and two TDs.
Ridge Community plays at Mulberry next Friday. Tenoroc is at Lakeland.
