LAKELAND | The Winter Haven Blue Devils showed why they are the No. 5 team in 5A in a 49-0 victory over George Jenkins in front of 500 fans at Veterans Stadium Friday night.

The 3-0 Blue Devils scored touchdowns running, receiving, on a 90-yard interception return and quickly in a contest that went to a running clock in the fourth quarter.

The Eagle defense held Polk County's leading rusher Adam Lane to only 36 yards rushing. But Winter Haven quarterback Luke Borders took advantage as he threw three touchdowns and ran for another.

Kendrick Holland who caught four passes for 81 yards caught two touchdowns.

Jenkins (0-3) just could not find any continuity on offense. Even when the Eagles did score as they did on a 50-yard pass to running back Trent Rains in the second quarter, it was negated due to a holding penalty.

Jenkins hosts Lake Region next week while Winter Haven hosts Kathleen on Thursday night with the contest being televised on Bright House Sports Network.
