FROSTPROOF | Driving for the go-ahead touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, Frostproof quarterback Xavier Gaines was stopped on fourth-and-2 at the Arcadia DeSoto 16-yard line.

DeSoto took over with 7:02 left in the game, and never relinquished the ball, winning 22-21, on Friday night to improve to 3-0.

"We couldn't stop them when it counted,'' Frostproof coach Price Harris said.

DeSoto drove to the Frostproof 3 before going into victory formation in the closing seconds.

Running back Terrell Gordon led DeSoto with 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Frostproof, 2-1, scored all three of its touchdowns in the final 7 minutes before halftime to lead 21-13.

Frostproof was flagged 15 times for 127 yards and fumbled five times.

"We killed ourselves - penalties, missed blocks, missed assignments,'' Harris said."They made us pay for those mistakes.''

Gaines, a ninth-grader, tossed two touchdowns, a 40-yarder to Daniel Knighten and a lob into the end zone to Reggie Allen from the 6. Cecil Cherry added a 45-yard touchdown run.
