Lakeland Takes 6th at Orlando Volleyball Academy Tournament

Lakeland placed sixth at the premier Orlando Volleyball Academy tournament this past weekend.

The Orlando Volleyball Academy hosts at least two prestigious high school tournaments a year and this one had 16 teams broken into three divisions.

George Jenkins, Auburndale and Lake Region also competed. Jenkins placed 15th, Lake Region 43rd and Auburndale 44th.

Auburndale also won the copper division.

Lakeland (7-5) beat The First Academy and Deland, teams that went to the state finals last year.

"Tournaments like this help prepare us for the post season where we could meet these teams again," Lakeland coach Crystal Ramsey said.

Caitlin Conner led the way for Lakeland, registering 179 assists, 57 digs, 11 kills and five solo blocks.

Conner, a 5-foot-9 senior setter, is currently fourth in the state and 20th in the nation in assists according to MaxPreps, com, a statistics site owned by CBSSports.

She is averaging 10.3 assists per game.
