LAKELAND | The Lakeland 5K City meet will take place at Tenoroc starting at 8 a.m. today, with 12 Polk County teams participating. Lakeland Christian, which had both individual winners last year, will not be in attendance as the Vikings will be racing at the FLRunners meet in Titusville.
"This year the city meet is on a Saturday, and we were already scheduled to go to Titusville," Lakeland Christian coach Mike Musick said. "In the past, the city meet has often been on a Thursday or a Friday."
All Saints' Academy, Foundation Christian Academy, George Jenkins, Kathleen, Lake Gibson, Lakeland, McKeel Academy, Oasis Christian Academy, Santa Fe Catholic, Tenoroc, Winter Haven and Victory Christian Academy will be running at Tenoroc.
Jenkins comes into the race as the favorite to win it in the individual and team standings.
The Eagles have four of the top five runners on the girls' side, including Teresa Trantham (20:32.93), Ruby Lewis (20:56.32), Casey Johnson (21:02.64) and Heather Meskimen (21:33.66).
