HAINES CITY | The Kathleen Red Devils recovered from a last-minute loss last week to Winter Haven with a 35-10 victory Friday over Haines City in front of 400 fans at Joe Stangry Stadium.
The Red Devils used the three-pronged running attack of A'Treyu Farrior, Rovonta Johnson and Anthony Ware to hand Haines City (1-4) its fourth loss in a row.
The Red Devils (3-2) tallied 282 yards on the ground including 111 yards by Ware.
"We wanted to establish the run," Red Devils coach Irving Strickland said. "We've got some lineman out. Those who were in need to understand our plan."
Haines City's Dacorius Law was all the offense for the Hornets, rushing for 200 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown.
Kathleen's Javon Harrison took the opening kick off 95 yards for an early 7-0 lead.
Law set up his own 20-yard touchdown with a 57-yard romp, tying the game a 7-7 in the first quarter.
The Hornets had a touchdown called back due to a penalty, nullifying a 71-yard pass play early in the second quarter.
Kathleen's Ware put the Red Devils up 14-7 on a 12-yard run in the second quarter.
Haines City's Cristobal Benitez made it 14-10 with a 26-yard field goal.
Kathleen stretched its lead to 21-10 just before the half on a 4-yard scoring run by Johnson.
Farrior connected with Damez Wright on a 22-yard pass as the Red Devils pulled away 28-10 in the third.
Kathleen will play host to Bartow next week in a key district game. Haines City hosts rival Ridge in a Class 7A, District 5 match up.
