George Jenkins Sweeps Lakeland City Meet

LAKELAND | It was a sweep for George Jenkins' boys and girls teams in the Lakeland City Meet Saturday morning at Tenoroc High School.
The win was the 14th consecutive city championship for the Eagles' boys team.
"I think the boys worked hard," Eagles boys coach Dan Snell said.
Junior Landon Schneider had the best time of day for the Eagles finishing in 17 minutes, 48.43 seconds followed by Lakeland's Jonathan Hulzebos (18:07.76), while Lake Gibson freshman Rodney Kretzer finished third with a time of 18:38.25.
Schneider and Hulzebos traded the lead in the first two miles before Schneider took it for good in the final three.
"It was my first win of the season and I feel so excited," Schneider said.
For the girls, Eagles sophomore Ruby Lewis finished first with a time of 21:51.45. Lakeland freshman Victoria Jung was second at 21:53.41 and senior teammate Phoebe Ferguson finished third with a time of 22:02.11
"It feels so good, I don't think winning has ever felt this good," Lewis said.
The Eagles' boys team finished with an average time of 18:51.25, while the Dreadnaughts finished second (20:04.90), and Winter Haven placed third with an average time of 20:04.90.
George Jenkins' girls team placed first with an average time of 22:36.34, with Lakeland coming in second (25:06.46), and McKeel Academy finishing third with an average time of 26:00.88.
"They ran real well today and overall I was very pleased," Eagles girls coach Dale Meskimen said.
