Lake Wales Stuffs Haines City's Run Attack, 35-13

LAKE WALES | The Lake Wales Highlanders picked up their second win in a week with a 35-13 drubbing of Haines City on Friday night at Legion Field.
The Highlanders defeated Mulberry 14-3 on Monday in a game that was postponed due to technical problems a week ago.
On Friday night, three Highlanders running backs carried Haines City defenders up and down the field, while the defense held the Hornets to 127 total yards.
Lake Wales' defense held the county's third-leading running back to 54 yards. Haines City's Dacorius Law did score one touchdown in the contest. His longest run was for 34 yards.
Highlanders quarterback Railond Garrett accounted for three touchdowns as he scored two on the ground and threw for 37 yards and one touchdown.
Lake Wales' Justin Henderson led all rushers with 118 yards on 16 carries. Teammate Jonte Sergeant tallied 85 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown.
David Jones also scored for Lake Wales (4-2), picking up a fumbled punt in the backfield and returning it 37 yards for the touchdown.
The Highlanders were not infallible however. They posted 100 yards in penalties.
The Hornets have lost six games in a row. In their last four games, their opponents have scored 35 points against them. It's also the second week in a row they have lost by a score of 35-13.
Next week Lake Wales travels to Tenoroc for a 5A, District 9 meeting. Haines City visits Lake Region in a Class 7A, District 5 contest.
