LAKELAND | Lakeland nearly got more than it could handle on Homecoming night.
Isaiah Walker's 1-yard touchdown with 1:15 to play gave the Dreadnaughts their first lead of the night and a 21-14 victory over Miami-Hialeah at Bryant Stadium.
Lakeland (7-0) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally, both off special teams miscues by Hialeah.
Lakeland tied it after forcing punter George Williams to tuck and run rather than risk a block deep in his own territory. The Dreadnaughts stuffed Williams at his own 13 and took over on offense.
Two plays later Braxton Huggins evened the score with a 14-yard touchdown run.
The winning score came off another miscue by Williams deep in his own end. This time Williams got a punt off but it went straight up, got caught in the wind and went for no yards, giving Lakeland control at the 1.
Walker punched in the game-winner soon after.
Any chance of a Hialeah comeback were thwarted shortly after as Chris Oliver fumbled the ensuing kickoff. Lakeland recovered and ran out the clock.
A pair of touchdown passes from Alin Edouard to Williams propelled Hialeah to a 14-7 lead after three quarters.
Lakeland clamped down in the second half, holding Hialeah without a first down in the second half.
"That's been our strength all year has been defense and they proved it again tonight", Castle said.
