Ford Drives Foundation To Easy Win over Santa Fe Catholic, 54-13

LAKELAND | Darshaun Ford took the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown, and Foundation Academy went on to defeat Santa Fe Catholic 54-13 Friday night.

Ford didn't slow down after the score. He found the end zone again on a 16 yard run in the first quarter, a 60 yard pass from David Atwood in the second quarter, and a 34 yard run in the third.

"My teammates helped me focus, and we play hard every play on every down" Ford said.

Ford finished with 100 yards receiving and 58 yards rushing.

Santa Fe Catholic junior quarterback Nick Martinez struggled in the first half, completing 1 of 9 passes for 9 yards with an interception.

Santa Fe came to life in the second quarter when junior Jake Brown bolted through the middle then down the right sideline for a 75-yard touchdown run.

The Crimson Hawks started the second half with freshman Alex Gutierrez in at quarterback.

"We wanted to give him some playing time, and I think he played well," Santa Fe coach William Dickerson said.

With 3:04 left in the fourth quarter, Gutierrez hit George Waller on a screen pass that turned into a 34 yard touchdown for the Crimson Hawks only other score.

Unfortunately it was too little, too late.

Waller finished the game with the reception plus 82 yards on 15 carries, most of which came in the first half.
