Class 1A Golf: McKeel Girls Finish Fourth in Regional

ODESSA | The McKeel Academy golf teams turned in the top scores from the Class 1A, Region 5 golf tournament at the Eagles Club in Odessa.
However, no local team or player advanced out of the regional event.
The McKeel girls, led by Shelby Hart's 82, followed their county and district championships with a fourth-place finish, shooting 385 on the par-72 course. Frostproof placed fifth with 393. Lakeland Christian placed sixth with 425.
Academy of the Holy Names finished first, while Northside Christian finished first.
Freshman and district champion Madison Aldrich of Frostproof shot 86.
Individuals Kayla Connors of Tenoroc shot 82 and All Saints freshman Alex Canto carded an 86.
Hart tallied three birdies in her round but finished with two bogeys.
"It's been a lot of fun this year," said coach Dennis Brown. "Our record is fabulous and our girls are going to be back strong."
Among the boys, McKeel tied for fifth with St. Petersburg Catholic with 337. Lakeland Christian placed seventh with 347.
All Saints placed ninth with 364. Their leading golfer from the district tournament, Jared Wright, withdrew. Steven Pike was the top male golfer from Polk County with a 78 on the par-72 course.
Frostproof's Rhett Pooley posted a 79. Hunter Lerch from Lake Wales shot 92.
Clearwater Central Catholic finished first and Tampa Catholic second.
