Swim Results From District and Regional Meets Won't Be Released in Full

Swim results from district and regional meets will not be released in full by the Florida High School Athletic Association until the entire district and region has completed races.

Corey Sobers, public relations specialist for the FHSAA, said the reason was because "coaches felt that the schools that compete later have an advantage in already knowing the times they had to beat to qualify for next round."

Meet managers and coaches are being told not to provide full results to newspapers or post them online and, on Wednesday night, the meet manager for the Class 1A, District 5 meet would only provide The Ledger with team scores and the top three swimmers in the individual events.

There are three districts per region and the top eight swimmers from each district advance to regionals, but only 16 relays out of the three districts move on.

"I know their basis around it is so one district doesn't have a leg up on another one, and I understand it," said Linda Howard, the swim coach at Oasis Christian. "To me, it's neither here nor there. It's annoying because you'd like to know what people have done, but I don't think it's that big of a deal for me going from districts to regionals."
