Jenkins' Girls Place Second At Swimming Districts


TAMPA | George Jenkins girls swam their way to a second-place finish in the Class 3A, District 4 swim meet at Bobby Hicks Pool.


The Eagles also sent numerous individual qualifiers to the regional meet next Saturday for both the girls and boys.

For the girls, Jenkins' 200 freestyle relay team, which is composed of Lucy Muller, Hope Saunders, Rachel Lulf and Kyleigh Firman, finished first with a season-best time of 1:41.9 to advance outright to regionals.

The Eagles' 200 medley relay squad placed second and the 400 freestyle team finished fourth and will wait for results from other district sites to see if it advances to regionals.

The top eight individuals in each district event advanced to the regionals meet.

Individually for the Jenkins girls, Firman came in first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.06. Muller came in right behind her in 25.99. Firman also placed second in the 100 fly in 59.40.

Lulf swam to a third-place showing in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Also finishing in the top eight for the Eagles in individual events was Saunders in the 200 IM (2:14.97) and the 200 freestyle (5:15.96).

For boys, Jenkins' Alex Carson chalked up a22.23 in the 50 freestyle and a55.19 in the 100 backstroke. Corey Brown also advanced to regionals in the 50 freestyle.

The Eagles' Zak Kerst had a 1:07.54 in the 100 backstroke to advance while Mathhew Walker moved on in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Walkers's teammate Ashton Winters also finished inside the top eight in the 100 breaststroke.

"I'm proud of how they swam," Jenkins' coach Jenn Gosline said. "We swam fast today and they had a lot of personal best times. … They have a chance at regionals and they've really worked hard this season."
