Lakeland Up a Spot in AP Football Poll

Lakeland moved up a spot in the Class 7A state football poll Monday after another close overtime win Friday.


The Dreadnaughts, previously at No. 9, are now tied for the eighth spot leading up to their first-round playoff game against Kissimmee Osceola. They beat Kathleen 28-27 on Friday.

Lake Gibson, dormant last week, moved down a spot in 6A to No. 7 while Winter Haven stayed in the ninth spot after a big win over Lake Region.

Ridge Community, district title winners in 7A-5, picked up eight votes in that classification and Fort Meade had six votes in Class 3A.

Ridge hosts Harmony this Friday while Fort Meade hosts Tampa Catholic.
