HAINES CITY | Led by Shykeem Pitts' elusive scrambles, effective passing and a stingy defense, the Ridge Bolts shut out the visiting Harmony Longhorns 24-0 Friday in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal contest.
The Bolts (9-2) advance to play fourth-ranked Kissimmee Osceola, whom they lost to in overtime in the first round of last year's playoffs.
"We're going to show up," Ridge coach Richard Tate said. "We'll be ready to play."
The offense and defense looked sharp Friday against Harmony (4-7).
Friday, the defense held the Longhorns, who were making their first trip to the playoffs in five years, to just 89 total yards and sent Longhorns starting quarterback Jeremiah Murray hobbling to the bench late in the fourth quarter.
Ridge tallied four sacks, broke up numerous passes and kept pressure on Murray.
"The defense played well except for that last drive," Tate said.
Pitts was 6 of 8 for 82 yards, using excellent footwork and deceptive moves to extend plays.
"His scrambling ability is phenominal," Tate said. "We are blessed to have him."
Bolts running back Trayvon Howard handled the bulk of the work on the ground with 132 yards on 22 carries.
But it was junior E'Shawn Davis who scored two touchdowns as the Bolts pounded the Longhorns on the ground.
The Bolts scored on their second possession, going 56 yards on seven plays, including a 15-yard scamper by Pitts. They capped the drive with a 20-yard run by Davis.
A 34-yard pass play from Pitts to Jamari Bulter helped an eight-play, 68-yard drive that ended with a 37-yard field goal by Daniel Delgado in the second quarter for a 9-0 advantage.
Ridge made it 16-0 just before the half as JaDe'Rian Johnson twisted in the middle of the line of scrimmage and took off for a 35-yard touchdown run.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Bolts made it 24-0 as Davis posted his second touchdown of the game, a two-yard run with 9:28 remaining in the contest.
